Now a widow and recent empty-nester, this work-from-home HR professional was living in a 1989 time capsule. Seeking a major refresh, she reached out to us, and we embarked on a journey to transform her dark and dated home into a bright and calming space fit for both work and relaxation.

We began with a focus on functionality and redesigned the layout, enhancing flow from room to room. Balancing the preservation of the home’s original wood trim and floors with a fresh color palette, custom casework, and new furnishings, we created an updated aesthetic that exudes distinctive character.

In the living room, we opened the floor plan, which not only created flow, but allowed space for a custom-built cabinet — perfect for entertaining. Custom wood beams were introduced to accentuate the high ceilings, creating an airy and spacious atmosphere. With a subtle limewash allowing the natural beauty of the bricks to shine through and a modern custom mantle, the fireplace became a stunning focal point.

The kitchen was the perfect canvas to showcase the beauty of the existing wood floor and trim. We added a custom range hood, floating shelves, and a dining table in similar tones, infusing natural warmth into the space. Neutral gray painted cabinetry and a light quartz countertop with striking gray veining brought the modern updates this kitchen craved.

Given our client’s work-from-home lifestyle, optimizing her office for productivity was critical. We brightened the room by removing the dark and dated wallpaper and adding a light, grounding rug. An updated layout, complemented by new furniture and built-in organization, maximizes efficiency. Our client’s entire home is now a beautiful, light, fresh, and airy space that embraces her current lifestyle and sophisticated professional identity.
